One on One Doubles
This pickleball drill is designed to improve players’ serves, returns, and transition shots.
Setup:
- Player 1 will serve for the entire game up to 11 points.
- Points are played cross-court only.
How to Play:
Point 1 (Even Side):
- Player 1 serves to Player 2.
- Player 2 returns the serve and must move to the Non-Volley Zone (NVZ) to play out the point.
- Player 2 should aim to place all shots past the depth line since Player 1 cannot enter the NVZ until they receive a short ball that bounces in front of the
- epth line.
Point 2 (Odd Side):
- The same sequence as Point 1, but now played on the odd side of the court.
Scoring and Rotation:
- Players alternate between the even and odd sides of the court after each point.
- The game continues until either player reaches 11 points and wins.
- After the first game is completed, the players switch roles, and Player 2 becomes the server for the next game.
Benefits:
- Focuses on developing effective serves and returns.
- Enhances transition shots as players practice moving forward into the NVZ after their return.
- Encourages strategic decision-making regarding shot placement and court positioning.
This drill provides valuable practice in crucial areas of the game, making it ideal for improving overall pickleball skills.
