Nasty Doubles
This high-intensity pickleball drill focuses on helping players improve their block volleys and resetting skills while preparing for opponents who hit hard, fast shots.
Setup:
- One doubles team starts at the baseline as the feeders.
- The opposing doubles team starts at the net.
How to Play:
Feeding the Ball:
- The baseline team serves as the feeding team for the drill.
- Each feed should be as nasty as possible, challenging the net team with difficult shots.
- The feeders can try to hit clean winners right off the feed.
Playing the Points:
- After the feed, the point is played out competitively.
- The net team works on blocking and resetting the ball to regain control, while the baseline team focuses on staying aggressive.
Rotation:
- After a game of five points, players rotate one position clockwise around the court, allowing everyone to experience different roles and positions.
Objectives:
- The net team practices managing hard-hit balls and resetting play under pressure.
- The baseline team sharpens its ability to deliver aggressive feeds and sustain aggressive play.
Why It Works:
- This drill prepares players to handle “bangers” and develop composure under fire.
- The rotation allows all players to experience both feeding and blocking.
Optional Variation:
- Play games up to five points but add specific scoring incentives, such as bonus points for clean winners off feeds or successful resets by the net team.
This drill is a fun and challenging way to simulate high-pressure scenarios while building key defensive and offensive skills.
