Crash & Dink

This cooperative pickleball drill focuses on improving both third-shot drops and drives while fostering consistency and control.

Setup:

Play on half the court, straight ahead.
One player starts at the Non-Volley Zone (NVZ), and the other at the baseline.

How to Play:

Baseline Player (Player 2):

  • Alternates between hitting drives and third-shot drops.
  • These shots simulate the third and fifth shots typically played by the server in a match.

NVZ Player (Player 1):

  • Aims to keep the rally going by returning shots deep, keeping Player 2 at the baseline.
  • Focuses on taking as many balls out of the air as possible to simulate an aggressive net presence.

Cooperative Focus:

The goal is to maintain a steady rally without scoring, emphasizing skill development and consistency.

Rotation:

After several minutes, switch roles so both players practice driving, dropping, and responding effectively.

Benefits:

Improves baseline players’ ability to mix powerful drives with controlled drops.
Enhances NVZ players’ reflexes, positioning, and ability to apply pressure.
Builds cooperative rally skills, improving shot consistency and placement.

This drill is an excellent way to practice essential pickleball shots in a focused and cooperative setting.
