Crash & Dink
This engaging pickleball drill focuses on developing transition volleys, dinking precision, and strategic play, all on half the court.
Setup:
Play cross-court using only one-half of the court.
Players alternate between the even and odd sides of the court.
Drill Format:
Point 1: Crash the Net
1. Player 1 begins by looping a feed to Player 2.
2. Both players crash the net, engaging in a fast-paced rally to play out the point.
3. Player 2 will likely focus on swing or transition volleys during this point.
Point 2: Dink to Live Play
1. Both players reset to the NVZ line.
2. Begin a dink rally where the first four shots must land in the kitchen.
3. After the fourth dink, the point becomes live, and players can hit any shot to win, using the full half-court.
4. If players fail to make four successful dinks, the point is forfeited, and no one scores.
Scoring and Rotation
- Play both points, then move to the odd side of the court and repeat the sequence.
- The first player to reach 21 points wins.
Role Reversal:
- After the first game, players switch roles:
- Player 2 becomes the feeder.
- Player 1 works on transition volleys.
Benefits:
- Improves transition volleys under pressure.
- Sharpens dinking accuracy and control.
- Encourages strategic decision-making during live play.
This drill provides a well-rounded practice session, balancing controlled shots and dynamic gameplay, making it ideal for players of all levels.
